The changes in the economy hit the most vulnerable families first and most drastically. We continue to watch as referrals to community agencies such as the Family Nurturing Center continue to rise.
Jackson County Statistics:
760 children (under 18 years of age) were victims of abuse and neglect in 2007
- 42% of abuse and neglect victims statewide are between the ages of 0-4 years
- 53% of victims of abuse and/or neglect were under the age of 6
- 4,283 reports of abuse and/or neglect were made
- 881 children were in foster care at least once in 2008
- A Window of Opportunity: 90% of brain development and basic social and emotional patterns are established in the first 3 years of life (Perry Study, 2004).
