January 6th was an exciting day at the Family Nurturing Center. Friends, city officials and state legislators joined children, board members and staff to break ground for the exciting renovations to FNC’s play yard. To have been chosen for the Chamber Leadership project and receive this wonderful gift for the children of the Center is really a dream come true.
Since the transformation began, the members of the Leadership Class have raised funds, received multiple donations of materials and labor, and have been working every weekend. New additions will include a covered and enclosed area for infants and toddlers, climbing structures for older toddlers and preschoolers, as well as slides, hills, tunnels, and others enchanting spaces.
Time for outside play in a rich, safe, and engaging environment is so important for all children, especially those who do not have regular opportunities for this kind of activity. A children's play area can truly help a child heal from abuse, learn how to get along with others, and develop typically. These very special, amazing children deserve opportunities to run, play, tumble, climb and do many things that help them grow. They also deserve places that are beautiful, safe, and responsive to their actions. This new play-yard is providing the opportunity for all of those things and many more.
In providing this wonderful gift to the children, the Chamber Leadership Team has also helped the community become more aware of what the basic goal of the Family Nurturing Center really is: to prevent child abuse and neglect, and help children heal and be able to grow in safe and loving families. The FNC is deeply grateful to the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Team and all the generous people and businesses that have donated resources. You have made a real and direct gift to the children, but in many ways to the future of our entire community. Every single person connected with the Center thanks you.
